Alamo Car Rental Scam - Tampa, Florida International Airport: I rented a vehicle from Alamo for a week throught Hotwire.com. When I arrived, I presented my reservation and was directed to the rental lot to choose a full size vehicle that I reserved and prepaid through Hotwire.com. After I chose my full size vehicle, I was told to drive to the gate and present my reservation papers, drivers' license and a credit card. I waited in line and at the gate presented the required papers and drove off. When I got to my hotel and started to unload my luggage I noticed that under the drivers' side rear fender/bumper area there appeared to be a white scuff/scrape and upon closer inspection, the vehicle had a long damage along the rear fender to the rear bumper area. The paint from the scuff/scrape appeared old and somewhat dried. When I took the vehicle back to the airport the Alamo agent did a quick walk through, open the drivers' door and looked at the milage/gas and started to key into his little device when I told him I only wanted to exchange for another vehicle and he asked me why. I told him that there was a scuff/scrape to the drivers' rear fender to the rear bumper and he asked me to show him. He did not even see it during his walk through because it was more under the body. I showed him the damage and he said he had to make a report before I can exchange for another vehicle. I went down to the counter and got a new vehicle by going to the rental lot and picking another vehicle, presented my rental papers, drivers' license and credit card and drove out the gate again without any kind of walk through inspection. I then parked the vehicle at the short term parking lot and went to the terminal to pick up a golf buddy who is flying in that night. While waiting at the baggage claim, the Alamo manager called me to go back to file a damage claim against my insurance company. I then walked back to the Alamo rental office and was told by the manager that it is my responsibility for the vehicle the momment I drove out the gate. She states that every Alamo agent did a walk through of the vehicle with all rental customers and there was no record of the vehicle having any prior damages. I told her a walk was never done on the rental vehicles I rented twice, the first time I rented and the second time when I came and did the exchange. She said she is not aware and that all she knew is that all Alamo agents was susppose to do a walk through inspection with all rental customers. She further states it's her job to file the claim against my insurance company and I can do whatever I want. So here is what I'm doing...putting this Alamo rental scam on youtube.com. NO WALK THROUGH WAS EVER DONE WITH MY TWO VEHICLES. I ALSO TOOK VIDEOS ASKING OTHER ALAMO CUSTOMERS THAT NIGHT IF WALK THROUGH INSPECTIONS WERE DONE ON THEIR VEHICLES WHICH THEY REPLIED "NO" AND WHEN I TOLD THIS PARTICULAR GENTLEMAN ABOUT THE POSSIBLE ALAMO RENTAL SCAM, HE GOT OUT OF HIS VEHICLE, WHICH WAS PARKED AT THE GATE COMPLETING RENTAL PAPWERS AND JUST ABOUT TO DRIVE OUT OF THE GATE, AND REQUESTED THAT ALAMO AGENT TO DO A WALK THROUGH INPSECTION WITH HIM. DON'T BE A VICTIM OF ALAMO CAR RENTAL SCAMS. TELL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY TO DENY SUCH A CLAIM AND SUIT THEM IN SMALL CLAIMS COURT TO STOP THIS KIND OF SCAMS.
